What Is Old Is New Again: A Word About Chickens

What got me interested in joining the NCRC was a conversation I had with a friend about local politics and issues that were being brought up at the city council meetings. The first thing he told me was about a new Chicken policy. That conversation had me at the word Chicken.  Yesterday while looking up some local history at the public library I found an article in a book written about North Canton and it covered the same topic of Chickens and the ownership thereof.

Here is the article as taken from “The North Canton Heritage Vol.1 1805 to 1940” by Ruth Harpold Basner:

 Bridling the Chickens

There was one village resident in the 1880’s who shall remain nameless, who had a number of chickens. She allowed them to roam at will which annoyed her neighbor enormously. Time and again she was asked to keep her chickens at home. There seemed no course but to teach her a lesson, but it would seem the poor chickens did most of the suffering. Determined not to be bothered again, the neighbor concluded to “bridle the chickens”.

By taking kernels of corn and tying small sticks to them and scattering them in his garden, the neighbor soon got his revenge. As the chickens would devour the corn, the stick could not be swallowed. Home they would go for relief. The owner of the poultry used such “brimstone oaths” the air was electric with hot adjectives. But, alas, the chickens roamed no more.

Democrat Congressman: “I Don’t Worry About the Constitution”

When asked to identify where in the Constitution it authorizes the federal government to mandate that United States citizens purchase healthcare insurance products, a Democrat congressman made this shocking admission:  “I don’t worry about the Constitution on [healthcare], to be honest.”  The video is below.

Kasich Leads Strickland In Latest Poll

According to a poll issued by the Dayton Daily News on March 23, 2010, if the election were held today, John Kasich would win convincingly.  42% of respondents indicated they prefer Kasich, but only 37% indicate that they prefer Strickland.

Other interesting items to note include:  only 33% of all Ohioans approve of Strickland’s performance as Governor, but 47% disapprove.   Further, while one would expect Strickland not to poll well among Republicans (and he didn’t), Strickland did not fare much better among independents:  54% disapprove of his performance, but only 28% approve.  Indeed, Strickland appears unpopular even amongst his fellow Democrats; barely more than half polled would admit a favorable opinion of him, but nearly a third expressed their disapproval.

Health Care Legislation Will “Control the People”

In response to being asked why it will take until 2014 for the recently enacted health care reform bill to take full effect, Congressman John Dingell (D-Michigan) said that such time is needed for the government bureaucracy to take the necessary steps to “control the people”:

“The harsh fact of the mater is, when you’re going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways, it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people.”

Boccieri Votes to Increase National Debt, Increase Taxes, and Fund Abortion

Congressman John Boccieri has long sold himself to Stark County voters as a “moderate” and even “pro-life” Democrat.   That mask came off yesterday.  By being one of the deciding votes in favor of the health care bill

He will tell you otherwise.  He will argue that the CBO has projected billions of dollars in savings as a result of the health care bill.  But he will forget to tell you that the CBO has counted approximately $500 billion Medicare dollars twice and that the CBO did not figure in the $59 billion “doctor fix” that will be included later on.

He will tell you not to worry about abortion-funding because President Obama signed an Executive Order prohibiting such funding.  But he will forget to tell you that the Executive Order is meaningless, because it contradicts statutory law permitting such funding, which will control.

He will also tell you not to worry about the new taxes, because they only affect the “rich”.  But he will forget to tell you that many small business owners who are not “rich” will also feel the impact, and that most of us are employed by the “rich,” who will pass along the costs to us.

Matt Miller and Jim Renacci are running to replace Congressman Boccieri.  Having the foresight to see its negative consequences on our community, they both opposed the health care bill.  One of these gentlemen will need your support in November.

Boccieri Flip Flops Under Pelosi Pressure; Will Vote For Healthcare Bill

Apparently he was for it, even though he voted against it just a few short months ago.

Yesterday, Congressman John Boccieri, whose district includes North Canton, announced his intention to flip flop his position, and will now vote in favor of the proposed health care bill.

Boccieri voted against the House version of the bill in November 2009, citing cost concerns.  Now, even though the health care bill will add billions to the deficit, and it will cost private businesses millions, Boccieri has assured Nancy Pelosi that he will vote with her to transform 1/6 of the nation’s economy on Sunday.

On a positive note, however, the health care bill is projected to create some new jobs.  To enforce the mandatory coverage requirements, the IRS intends to hire 17,000 new employees.

Congressman Boccieri can be contacted at the following telephone and fax numbers: District Office Phone: (330) 489-4414;  Fax: (330) 489-4448.  Washington D.C. Office Phone: (202) 225-3876;  Fax: (202) 225-3059.  You can alsocomment on his Facebook page
